Description
The Glasslite compnay of Brazil aquired the license from Kenner to produced Star Wars toys in 1988, including the infamous Vlix figure. The packaging for these toys is extremely attractive and unique. The item shown here is the original artwork used as a master to create packaging for the X-Wing toy, which came in a POTF package exclusive to Brazil. The type of art for this package is what is known as photo art: a photo that has been augmented by airbrushing to either highlight or hide certain details in the photo. In this case, the original image used was actually a US Kenner box, which had to be airbrushed to hide the English text so that a package using Portugese could be made. The nicely done airbrush work created the image of swirling mists in the Dagobah swamp, similar to the US box, but noticeably different. Original art pieces are considered the pinnacle of Star Wars collecting, and are especially prized when they relate to the vintage action figures. It is especially amazing when artwork related to a well-known foreign line like the Glasslite toys is found. |
